Internet Advancement

Units can use Internet Advancement to record their youth member advancements online. You will find this new method to be easy, convenient, and accurate because you enter the information, and it will save you the effort of hand writing advancements onto a three-part carbon form. Use Internet Advancement for adding ranks, merit badges and awards. and to update information on existing advancements (except the Eagle Scout rank).

How it works

Each unit selects one person who will have the log in information and be authorized to do advancement reporting for the unit. To request your Unit ID number to access Internet Advancement, please contact AskAbe@Scouting.

Things you will need

  1. Unit ID # - If you do not have this, contact the council office at AskAbe@Scouting.org or 217-529-2727 to get your number.
  2. Advancement Records - To enter in once you get into the system.
  3. Printer Access - So that you can print your Advancement Update Summary.
  4. System Requirements - Explorer 5.5 or higher, 56K or faster Internet connection and Adobe Reader .

Distinguished Service Awards

The highest award is the Silver Beaver Award, presented by the National Court of Honor by recommendation of the local council. There is a strict limit on the number of awards that can be awarded annually.  The Silver Beaver Award recognizes service to youth within the Abraham Lincoln Council (unit, district or council level), as well as service to the nominee’s community or church outside of Scouting over an extended period of time.

Nominations may be submitted throughout the year, but the committee meets in late January.  Nominations are retained from one year to the next for three years.

Councils may also award the District Award of Merit, on recommendation of the district and with the approval of the council.  The District Award of Merit also has a limited number that can be presented annually.  It recognizes service to youth on a unit or district level.
