2012 High Adventure Opportunities

 

 

Below, you will find information on a variety of adventures.  They vary on time of year, length and cost.  With a little hard work (like selling popcorn), none of them are out of reach from any Scout of the right age and determination.  Jump into the next century of Scouting and go for a high adventure experience…

 

Philmont Scout Ranch

July 13-27, 2012

 

At 137,000 acres, Philmont is the largest of the national high adventure bases. Located in northern New Mexico, it is a rugged mountain wilderness.

The Council has been awarded 3 crews of 12 for the 2012 Philmont Trek. By council policy, crews are limited to 3 adult members and 9 youth members.

The expected departure by Amtrak Train will be July 13, 2012. The group should return on July 27th. Youth participants must be 14 by September 1, 2012. The fee will be $1,275 and includes meals, fees, transportation and group equipment. The fee does not include personal gear such as a pack, boots, etc. Meals and snacks on the train are also not included. A $100 deposit is required at the time of registration. All registrations are subject to approval and available space. Deposits are non-refundable unless not approved to attend.

Summit Corps

The New River Experience

Order of the Arrow members may take part in this new service and recreational event in the New River George National River in West Virginia as we develop the newest National High Adventure Base - The Summit: The Bechtel Family National Reserve.

The estimated cost: $250, plus transportation and meals while traveling.
