Eagle Recognition Banquet

EAGLE SCOUTS

·         Our Annual Eagle Scout Recognition Dinner to honor the Eagle Class of 2018 will be held on Monday, February 25, 2019 in the Hall of Flags in the Howlett Building.  There is no cost for our new Eagle Scouts to attend, as every one of them will have a sponsor.  As much as possible, we try to connect our new Eagles with someone with a similar career choice or an alumnus of their college choice, etc. Please respond with your plans to attend as soon as possible, so that we can better connect him with an appropriate sponsor.  If he cannot attend, please let us know that as well.  RSVP by February 11, 2019.

·         While parents and leaders are generally not invited to the dinner, they may join us in the House Chambers and observe from the 4th floor gallery.  The program will begin at about 7pm.   However, if you wish to sponsor an Eagle, other than your own child, you may do so on the council’s website.

 ·         Local Scholarships:   The Tungett Family Eagle Scout Scholarship for $1,000 will be presented to one member of the 2018 class.  With only 54 Eagles in the class, the odds are not too bad.  Selections are made through blind data supplied to a committee of volunteers. The deadline to apply is also February 11, 2019.

 ·         Lincoln Pilgrimage Honor Guard: Eagle Scouts are encouraged to be part of the Honor Guard at the 2019 Lincoln Pilgrimage on Sunday, April 28th.  They will take part in a tribute at the War Memorials and lead the Pilgrimage by carrying the historic flags.  Please encourage your son to take part in this tribute to Mr. Lincoln. Please let Chuck Apgar know if you are available to be part of the Eagle Honor Guard (Charles.Apgar@Scouting.org).

SPONSORS

The year has ended and it is time to celebrate- not the arrival of a new year, but the accomplishments of fifty-four young men here on Mr. Lincoln’s Prairie who became Eagle Scouts in 2018.  I hope that you can help make the celebration happen.

On February 25, 2019, we will gather at the Hall of Flags in the Howlett Building for a fine dinner, followed by a program in the House Chambers.  In attendance will be our new Eagle Scouts, their sponsors and a limited number of other people.

As much as possible, we try to link Eagles and sponsors by career or college interests.  Some sponsors can’t be linked directly, but help due to their interest and belief in the Scouting program.  Occasionally, a sponsor has a special connection to a particular Scout.

We would be honored if you would serve as a sponsor for the 2019 dinner.  The cost is $225, most of which can be tax deductible.

If you wish to sponsor, but are unable to attend, please let us know and we’ll find a host to serve in your place.  Please respond by February 8, 2019.

Thank you for your interest and willingness to help recognize a promising group of young men.  Overall, they represent the best that Scouting has to offer and it promises to be a great evening.
