Scheduled for summer 2012, the contingent will again be led by Mark Janus & Kathy Kilhoffer.

Two suggested adventures are the live aboard scuba and the coral reef sailing adventure.  Both involve living a full week on a sailboat while exploring the numerous reefs of the Florida Keys.

The live aboard scuba participants must be scuba certified prior to departure.

All participants must be at least 14 years old by May 2012 and at least 1st class rank.  In addition the first aid, swimming and life saving merit badges must be earned prior to departure.

If you would like a presentation with pictures to your troop or patrol, Mark or Kathy will be happy to schedule a time with you.  Parents are encouraged to attend also.

Don't miss this fantastic opportunity to explore the Florida Keys.

SAILING IN THE ABRAHAM LINCOLN COUNCIL

The Abraham Lincoln Council is blessed with one of the finest in-land Scout sailing programs in the country.  Thanks to a generous, anonymous gift to establish and endow our sailing program, we have several dimensions, including:

·        Sunfish training and sailing at Camp Bunn

o   Sea Scouts, Venturers, and Boy Scouts dedicate 3 hours a day during their Camp Bunn Summer Camp stay to training and learning the basics of sailing, culminating in a Friday Regatta.  The top two sailors each week are invited back to compete for part of a $1,000 annual scholarship in the annual “Skipper’s Cup Regatta.”

·        Catalina 22 cabin boats on Lake Springfield

o   Patrols and troops are able to schedule a volunteer captain and boat throughout the sailing season  to get the feel of a bigger boat.  Basic skills and guidance are provided.

o   Sea Scout Ships are allowed to train and learn about these beautiful boats.

Young Men and Women ages 14 - 21 interested in sailing are invited to join us for an exciting and educating sailing experience.

To find out more about the Sailing Program and how to join Ship 123, please contact Scott Rothenberg at Scott.Rothenberg@Scouting.org or 217-529-2727.
